World Muslim Council's Stand with Palestinian Muslims

For over 75 years, the Palestinian people have faced systemic discrimination, displacement, and violence. Since 1948, over 134,000 Palestinians and Arabs have been killed due to ongoing conflict, and the number continues to rise due to continued hostilities, including recent escalations in Gaza, where over 35,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since October 2023 alone.

Historical Context and Impact:

The roots of Palestinian suffering trace back to the Nakba (“Catastrophe”) in 1948, when 15,000 Palestinians were killed, and nearly 1 million were forcibly displaced as Israel was established on historic Palestinian land. Over 70 massacres were committed during this period, resulting in the destruction of 531 villages. This violence has not ceased, with ongoing land seizures, home demolitions, and violence further marginalizing Palestinians.

Current Reality:

Today, Palestinians live under severe restrictions. Over 85% of the land in historical Palestine is exploited by Israeli authorities. Additionally, 745,467 Israeli settlers occupy the West Bank in over 483 settlements. In Gaza, decades of blockades and military actions have resulted in the near-collapse of infrastructure, leaving millions without basic necessities.

The Role of the World Muslim Council (WMC):

The World Muslim Council stands firmly with the Palestinian people. We advocate for:

  1. Restoration of Rights: Ensuring Palestinians have the right to live freely, practice their religion, and access their ancestral lands without fear of displacement or violence.
  2. International Accountability: Pressuring global powers to hold Israel accountable for violations of international law, including forced evictions, apartheid policies, and the killing of civilians.
  3. Global Unity: Encouraging all Muslim-majority nations to take a unified stance, leveraging diplomatic and economic tools to advocate for justice.
  4. Humanitarian Assistance: Mobilizing resources to rebuild Palestinian communities affected by decades of destruction and neglect.

Resolving the Issue:

The conflict’s resolution requires:

  • International Pressure: Engaging global organizations like the UN to enforce international resolutions, including ending settlements and occupation.
  • Dialogue and Negotiation: Supporting peace talks that genuinely prioritize justice and equity for Palestinians.
  • Muslim World Solidarity: The establishment of an international Muslim coalition to protect Palestinian rights through diplomatic and economic measures.

The World Muslim Council remains committed to justice and peace, ensuring the sacrifices of countless Palestinians will not be forgotten. It is our collective duty to uphold their rights and dignity in the global community.
